HOW TO HAVE A SINGLE NAME USERNAME ON FACEBOOK

This post is just for educational purposes.

Have you ever wanted to have only one name on your profile?
For instance I am Nick Muthumbi, and I'd love my Facebook username to read Nick or even Muthumbi.

So I'll provide step by step instructions as to how to have just one name on your Facebook Username.

To do that:
  1. Log in to your Facebook account.
  2. Head over to the account settings and change the language to Bahasha Indonesia.
  3.  Now head over to Proxies from Indonesia and choose any proxy IP with 8080 as the proxy port.
  4. Now you need to change the proxy settings on your browser, either Mozilla or Google Chrome  . Hint (click on either to get detailed instructions on how to change proxy settings). You might need to change the proxy IP if your choice fails to connect.
  5. Now go back to your Facebook account settings and edit your name. Make sure all text entry fields are empty except the one for First name. In the first name text field, enter your preferred name. If you wish to have an alternative name, feed it in the Alternative name text entry field then save the changes. You will be prompted to use your password for the changes to be applied.
  6. That's it. Now change your language back to English.

HOW TO USE YOUR ANDROID PHONE AS A SPEEDOMETER

Admit it. At one point in time you have always wanted to know the speed at which the vehicle you are travelling in is cruising but you cannot because you are too far from the driver's seat to catch a glimpse of the speedometer.

You curse (or pray) silently hoping you'll get to your destination in time, or alive.

But with an android device, you don't have to be seated next to that crazy driver who drives like a lunatic to figure out the exact neck breaking speed he's negotiating L bends at .

Okay. The blogger  in me is overriding the techie.
Let me do what I do best before I end up blogging on entirely different, and meaningless subject (like post Valentine's Syndrome).

Anyway, you can use your android gadget as a speedometer.
Here's how:

Prerequisites
  1. Stable data connection
  2. GPS service support on your device
  3. Basic Google Play knowledge
  4. As much common sense as you can garner
Procedure
  1. Turn on your GPS location services on your phone.
  2. Head over to Google Play and install DigiHUD Speedometer .
  3. Now launch the application and get the truth (on speeds) from the comfort of your seat away from that gear-lever happy driver.
PS: You need to be connected to the internet all along.

THAT'S IT!
Have fun busting your driver over speeding or snailing you to work.

Here's the video tutorial

XPOSED FOR ANDROID 5.0

For a while now, the android community has been having the mother of headaches in relation to ROM modding.
You see, at this time and age, most people prefer modding stock ROMs rather than flashing custom ROMs more so after introduction of knox security utility (Samsung phones running Kitkat on wards).

I can hear the noobs asking what this is all about.
Okay. Let me shove you in the know zone.

Xposed  is an application that provides a framework for the running of modules (which are app as well) that allow android users to modify their stock ROMS. If all that doesn't make sense to you, Google is your friend.

Back on track.

Rovo89, the heaven sent developer who brought us Xposed, has announced that there is an alpha release of Xposed for lollipop.
That means android 5.0 users can now mod their ROMs all they want like the bosses they are. haha.
I hope you are aware that you will require root access as well to use Xposed.
I already have a list of modules that I can't wait to use on this "candy in my bar phone". But that's a story for another day.

Though with bugs, this is worth trying.
But be warned. The bugs might cause major system errors that may require knowledge in working around boot loops and system crash. So kindly keep off if you have no idea of how to salvage your phone in case anything happens.

With all that said, you can head over to XDA and get to know more about this wonderful creation.

As always, I keep such posts short and precise.

But if you have any questions, feel free to use the comment section.

FACEBOOK HOW TOs

At this age and time, anyone who's reading this is  most probably on Facebook.

So this post is just to help y'all Facebook users get the most from Zuckerberg's innovation.
Here's a list of some features that would definitely  spice up your Facebook experience.

MENTIONING A FRIEND IN A COMMENT.
This is  definite way of making sure someone is notified about whatever it is you think might be of interest to them.
To mention a friend in  a comment.
  • Write their Facebook username starting with @.  For instance, if you want to mention me, just type @Nick and Facebook will give suggestions of all friends in your friend list who have the name Nick in their usernames.
  • Select the intended friend and that's it! You just mentioned a friend and they will definitely get the notification. Do not forget to post your comment. haha.

             POSTING STICKERS
Apart from the emojis that you get when you click on that smiley face just next to the camera icon on the right side of the comment box,  Facebook has a provision for amazing stickers. to get those as your comment, you should:
  • Click on the smiley icon.
  • In the resultant drop down menu, you will note a plus + at the top right corner. Click on that and you will access the awesome stickers.
  • Select any sticker that you deem fit and BAM! You just made a sticker comment.

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR FACEBOOK ACTIVITY
At a point in time, one needs to dig up some old post or comment you made on Facebook  long ago. If you are an active FB user you definitely know it will be one tedious process going through your notifications or timeline to get what you want.
But worry not. There is a record of all your activity on Facebook, from sending and receiving friend requests to posing in a group.
To view your Facebook activity:
  • Head over to your timeline
  • You will note a panel written "View Activity Log"
  • Click on that option and a list of all your Facebook activity (dating from the day you joined Facebook to date) will appear.

APPEAR OFFLINE EVEN WHEN YOU ARE ONLINE .
Lets face it. We all have those nagging pals who want to chat you up everytime you appear online on facebook. At times we just dont want to chat, but we have to keep up with them just not to appear rude.
But did you know you could turn off the online status and have your online peace.
To appear offline.
  • Locate the cog wheel icon on the right side of you Facebook page,at the bottom of the online list in the search box.

  • Click on that icon and select turn off chat in the pop up menu. And that's just it. You can now enjoy the peace.

There are many more awesome features on Facebook. If I left out any of them kindly post them in the comment section and I'll be glad to update this post.
